These dogs are trained to do various tasks- anywhere from pulling objects away from the person and providing emotional and physical support during a seizure, to in special cases, alerting their charge of an impending episode. Contrary to popular belief, all "seizure dogs" are not trained to alert to seizures, although some may have or develop this ability. Due to differing needs between each case, every dog receives specialized training. Dogs that may become and are seizure response dogs must be absolutely perfect for the job, and capable of keeping control in every possible situation. Because of the rarity of these certain traits and the difficulty in training seizure response dogs, only a few organizations provide them. However, this number is rising. SEE ALSO EXTERNAL LINKS
