The Sea Empress was a single hull Oil Tanker . She became famous for the devastation to the south west Wales coastline caused when the ship ran aground. On the evening of the ship hit rocks in the middle of the channel, puncturing her hull. An estimated 73,000 tonnes of her 130,000 tonne cargo of North Sea Crude Oil spilt onto the surrounding coast, much of which lies within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park . The tanker was subsequently renamed and continued operating until 2004. EXTERNAL LINKS
