Scouting in Greater Glasgow is a part of The Scout Association in Scotland , United Kingdom . It is a Scout Area that includes the local government authorities of the City of Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire , along with parts of North Lanarkshire , South Lanarkshire and East Renfrewshire . There are 91 Scout Groups in 11 Scout Districts working with 5,748 young people lead by 832 adult leaders and instructors. The 1st Glasgow Scout Group was the first Scout Troop to be registered on 26 January, 1908, making it the first known registered scout group. The 1st Glasgow was started in late summer 1907 by Captain 'Boss' Young as a boys camping club. Boss Young met B.P. during B.P.'s UK tour in November 1907 and decided to run the club along the lines that B.P. published in his 'Scouting for Boys' periodical. The 24th Glasgow Scout Group, based in Bearsden to the north of Glasgow is one of the largest Groups with five Beaver Colonies , six Cub Packs , two Scout Troops and an Explorer Unit . It was formed in January 1908. There is a published history of the group Alex Spalding, ''The 24th 1908 - 1988'', ISBN 0 9513439 0.. The 77th Glasgow Scout Group is a group in the Greater Glasgow Scout Area that specialises in work with boys who have physical disabilities.
