School Debating In Scotland




School Debating in Scotland is a competitive activity taken up on an extra-curricular basis by many school across the country. Teams of two or three compete in several competitions and schools debaters may be selected for Scotland in the World Schools Debating Championships.


THE LAW SOCIETY DONALD DEWAR MEMORIAL DEBATING TOURNAMENT 2005


One of the highlights of last years debating season was the Donald Dewar tournament sponsored by The Glasgow Bar Association and Simpson and Warwick Solicitors. The final was won by George Heriot's School of Edinburgh and chaired by Nicola Sturgeon MSP . Robert Gordon's College finished second.


THE LAW SOCIETY DONALD DEWAR MEMORIAL DEBATING TOURNAMENT 2006


The tournament received it's highest level of entries as 152 teams from different 90 schools entered. 1st Round Heats were held on Tuesday the 22nd of November 2005. The motion in round one was "This house would make the incitement of religious hatred illegal." The second round has been scheduled for 31 January 2006. The motion is "This house would name and shame sex offenders."
