Information About

Salman Rashid

Salman Rashid is a famous travel-writer of Pakistan. He is writing in the major English language newspapers and magazines of the country, including Dawn, The News and Herald. His first book, "Between two burrs on the map, travels in Northern Pakistan" is the story of a 1100 km journey, of which 800 km he did on foot, in the wilds of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral .

According to a web site, "Salman Rashid trekked through the three greatest mountain ranges on the globe: the Himalaya , Karakorum and the Hindu Kush . Following mostly in the footsteps of the great explorers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Salman spent a whole summer reliving 'the quintessence of early travel and exploration' in difficult conditions and extreme weather. Starting in the Western Himalayas at Naran in the Kghan valley, his journey led him to Skardu, Shimshal, Ishkoman and Yasin, ending in Chitral. His meandering travels took him through some of the least known parts of the legend, history and ways of the people he encountered. this is the first authentic and sensitive account of the people and lands of north Pakistan written by a 'local' with a passion for lost histories and cultures. Readers are bound to be enriched and delighted by Salman Rashid's travelogue." {Link without Title}
