Cricket er who plays as a
Left-handed Batsman . He plays as an
Opening Batsman , largely because of his ability to both bat for long periods of time, and build solid
Innings that other batsmen can utilize.
Butt played in the Under-19
Cricket World Cup and also toured
South Africa with the
Pakistan Academy team, scoring 233
Runs against the South African Academy team. He made his
Test debut against
Bangladesh in
2003 . Eventhough in the beginning there were doubts over his defensive technique, Butt proved himself with his confidence and is known as a very "wristy" player who favours the
Off Side with his punchy
Square Drive s.
Following strong performances in
Australia in
2005 , Butt was chosen for the Pakistani team's tour of the
West Indies and
India . He scored a
Century at
Jamshedpur against the latter team. In
November 2005 , Butt scored a century in Pakistan's first test against the touring
England team and earned the
Man Of The Match award for his performance. He also performed consistently both in the Test series and in the following
ODI series.
