Saladdin castle is found 40km east of Lattakia , Syria , on high mountainous terrain, at the summit of a hill. The castle was built in ancient times, with the location known to the Phoenicia ns, who then surrendered it to Alexander The Great about 334 BC . In the tenth century the Byzantines gained control of it from the Aleppan Hamdanid Dynasty , following which the castle was occupied by the Crusade r Principality Of Antioch . Many medieval features of the castle are still extant. |
