INGREDIENTS Salad cream is usually made from distilled vinegar, vegetable oil, water, sugar, mustard, salt, egg yolks, modified cornflour, Xanthan Gum and Guar Gum (as stabilizers), and riboflavin (for colouring). HISTORY Salad cream was invented by the H. J. Heinz Company in 1914 and soon became popular, primarily among Working Class people. USES In addition to its use as a salad dressing, salad cream is also commonly used as a sandwich spread. BRANDS The H. J. Heinz Company remains the primary producer of salad cream, although it is also produced by other companies in the United Kingdom. In the United States , where salad cream is generally unavailable (and unknown), the T. Marzetti company produces a similar product, called T. Marzetti Original Recipe Slaw Dressing. Salad cream generally comes in a clear glass bottle, or, more recently, a clear plastic squeeze bottle. EXTERNAL LINK |
