Sakata (境港市; -gun) is a District located in Shiga , Japan .

As of 2003 , the district has an estimated Population of 41,126 and a Density of 184.34 persons per Km² . The total area is 223.10 km².

On February 14 , 2005 , Ibuki , Santo , and Maihara towns merged to form a new city called Maibara . Sakata District has been dissolved after Omi merged with Maibara on October 1 , 2005 .
