The board of directors is made up of the state government and private sector. The role of the board is to formulate a set of strategies and policies to achieve a common goal and vision. The Air Operator Certificate is issued to Sabah Air by the Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation to carry out non-scheduled air services and flying services to any destinations from Sabah. Pleasure flights can be arranged for sight seeing above neighbouring islands and beaches in Sabah, such as Gaya , Manukan and Sapi islands to visitors. Flying Doctor Service is arranged by the state government to deliver its health service to the people who resides at remote areas, particularly those who lives in the interior mountainous regions of Sabah. Business and visiting flights are arranged for both diplomatic & private missions. AIR CRASH In 6 June 1976, 11 lives including those of the first chief minister of Sabah Muhammad Fuad Donald Stephens and some state cabinet members were lost in an air crash over Sembulan village, which is situated in district of Kota Kinabalu after taking off about 30 minutes, which was on its flight to Tawau from Kota Kinabalu Airport . Till this date, no formal report has been made or done to acknowledge the public and the people of Malaysia , particularly the people of Sabah in response to this tragic accident by the state and federal government.
