A (or "splenic rupture") is one of the more common injuries due to
Trauma of the
Abdomen . If the trauma merely weakens the spleen, the rupture may not present itself until several days after the event.
Though it is usually caused by trauma, not disease, a diseased spleen is more vulnerable to trauma. Occasionally, such as in
Malarial infections, a spleen can rupture without trauma.
It is usually treated with a
Splenectomy .
