The Roman Catholic Apostolic Prefecture of the Marshall Islands is an ecclesiastical territory below the rank of Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the Marshall Islands . It is a suffragan of the United States Metropolitan Province Of Agaña . The apostolic prefecture is led by a Prelate called the Prefect which Pastor s the Motherchurch , the Cathedral of the Assumption in Majuro . The prefect does not have the episcopal dignity and is usually appointed from the local missionary Jesuits . The apostolic prefecture was established on April 23 , 1993 by Pope John Paul II as a result of a split of the former Diocese of Carolines-Marshalls.
