Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots

Each player takes control of either the red Robot (the "Red Rocker") or the blue robot (the "Blue Bomber"), both of which are standing on a platform reminiscent of a Boxing Ring . By pushing buttons on a pair of Joysticks at the base of the platform, players make their robot punch at their opponent's robot. If a robot gets hit in the chin, its head will pop up, signifying that the other player has won.

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots is remembered for the phrase "Knock his block off!", which refers to the act of causing a robot's head to pop up. This phrase was used on the game's box as well as in Television Commercial s promoting the toy.

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots have been referred in The Simpsons . In the episode " Simpson Tide " (3G04), Homer states "Oh, Lisa , it's just War Games . It's not like a game could hurt me," followed by a scene in which Homer's head is stuck between the two robots whilst he controls one with each hand. After repeated blows, Homer exclaims "Damn you, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots! Can't we all just get along?"

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots have also been paid homage to by Futurama . In the episode A Fishful Of Dollars , Fry purchases Bender a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots toy, which he calls "kind of cute" until one of robots' blocks is knocked and springs up, frightening Bender.

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots are also mentioned in Tenacious D 's eponymous album in the song "City Hall," in which Jack Black proclaims that "everyone is Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots."
