The Bertigo was one of the new Mobile Suits developed by the Space Revolutionary Army for use by Newtype pilots. The Bertigo’s most powerful weapon were it's bits, 12 separate units stored in the arms which can be psychically controlled to attack the enemy from different directions. Thus the system proved to be a dangerous weapon but it could only be used by a Newtype. The bits each contained a small scale beam rifle, and could be used for a short time before they had to return to the Mobile Suit to recharge. During the 7th Space War the Space Revolutionary Army planned to bring a swift end to the battle with the Operation Lilac. In this operation, five Bertigos were supposed to escort the massive Newtype mobile fortress MAN-003 Patulia down to Earth to attack the Federation. However the five Bertigos were destroyed in atmospheric combat and the Patulia changed course and crashed on the Earth. It is not known how many Bertigos survived the war but one was used by an Enhanced Newtype Carris Nautilus in AW 0015. With his mobile suit Carris attacked the Freeden and fought against Garrod Ran in the GX-9900 Gundam X . Garrod was quickly defeated by the devestating bits and the Gundam X was severaly damaged. Carris and his Bertigo were later defeated by Garrod and his new GX-9900-DV Gundam X Divider .
