RMS QUEEN MARY The Ocean Liner RMS Queen Mary was initially supposed to be called the ''Victoria'' in line with the naming of Cunard Steamship Lines liners, with an ending in ''-ia'' like the Lusitania, Mauritania, and the like. Supposedly, when presented to King George V , the company representatives said that she would be named after the greatest queen ever, meaning the King's grandmother, Victoria. George V took it to mean his wife, Mary , hence the company named the ship Mary. ARCADIA The '' Arcadia '' is a new Cruise Liner built at Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and entering service with P&O in 2005. Initially this ship was intended to be the new ''Queen Victoria'', and be ready for the 2005 season. However, a restructuring by Cunard's parent company, Carnival Corporation , saw this unit being transferred to P&O as the ''Arcadia''. The Arcadia has a Gross Tonnage (GRT) of 85,000 tons and carries 1,952 passengers. A ship of similar design and specifications to the Arcadia is due to be commissioned as the Queen Victoria in 2007. It is not known whether this ship will receive the designation Royal Mail Ship , as it will be a Cruise Ship as opposed to an Ocean Liner . SEE ALSO
