RHINE KNEE AT BASEL In Basel the Rhine changes its east-western direction of flow up to the north, along the borders of France and Germany , to flow in the North Sea . In political view the Rhine knee is near the Three Country Corner of France, Germany and Switzerland . Therefore this region is called ''Regio TriRhena''. The whole Rhine knee lies within the Swiss territory and is settled by the city of Basel and its adjacent municipalities Riehen and Bettingen . More north are the German villages Lörrach and Weil Am Rhein as well as the French towns Huningue and Saint Louis . OTHER RHINE KNEES Another curve of the Rhine is called Rhine knee, which is between the German cities of Mainz and Bingen . There is also a Bridge in Düsseldorf called "Rhine knee bridge". |
