''Resident Evil 5'' ( Japanese : バイオハザード5
''Biohazard 5'') is the forthcoming seventh installment (including '''') in the '' Resident Evil '' Survival Horror series for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 , and was first announced on July 20 , 2005 .

GAME INFORMATION

Taking over producer duties from Hiroyuki Kobayashi is Jun Takeuchi (director of '' Onimusha ''). Several staff members who also worked on the original '' Resident Evil '' are involved in development. According to Takeuchi, the game will utilize the same gameplay model introduced in '' Resident Evil 4 '', while implementing thematics from the original ''Resident Evil'' into the game. The game will be a full-fledged Sequel taking place after the events in ''Resident Evil 4'', and is said to be a major turning point in the series', overall storyline.

A with the previous ''Resident Evil'' titles. Capcom has, however, announced that they will be making a separate game for the Wii that will utilize Wii's hardware capabilities and unique controller.

No official release date has been announced. In an interview with executive producer Keiji Inafune published in the Japanese publication ''Xbox 360ism'' states that both versions of the game will be released simultaneously if possible, depending on the launch date of the PlayStation 3, which has now been confirmed as early November 2006. The game will have online features that have yet to be disclosed.

STORYLINE

.]]

No details have been released about the game's storyline other than the fact that it is set after the events of ''Resident Evil 4'' and that it will take place in a Desert setting (an idea inspired by the Movie '' Black Hawk Down ''), in which the main character is stranded in an undisclosed foreign country after surviving a helicopter crash, it has been suggested that the storyline is passed somewhere near Ecuador. The main character's identity has not been officially released, but an article in the August 5 , 2005 issue of '' Weekly Famitsu '' suggests the possibility of the protagonist being Chris Redfield by pointing out a resemblance, as well as hinting that the protagonist is a character the developers are "very fond of" (with most of the team having worked on the original ''Resident Evil'', including Takeuchi himself).

The ''), Takeuchi commented that the production is in its early stages and many plot details are still in the air.

Over the course of the last two installments in the canonical Resident Evil storyline an organization has been attempting to build on the Umbrella legacy and produce what they were unable to do. While Umbrella was able to build Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s), only one isolated B.O.W., The Nemesis , was able to be controlled.

WEAPONS & GAMEPLAY

Details are sketchy right now, but it is confirmed that a large knife will be the starter weapon.

It has also been speculated that you will start out with a handgun, as is the tradition with most Resident Evil games, it will probablty be another Kendo Gun Shop custom because it has a wooden grip, most of the KGS customs have that (ejem: RE4's Handgun), the handgun will probably be a new version of the Samurai Edge.

A Desert Eagle will probably be avaible because of the fact Capcom will use alot of things from RE4 Beta, and in it Leon has a Desert Eagle in some pics, but in the final game the Deagle is no more.

Though enemies were faster in Resident Evil 4 than previous ''Resident Evil'' games, according to the Japanese teaser trailer the enemies are now humanly fast, ala '' 28 Days Later '', making them a much less clichéd, but more deadly, enemy. It is believed that ''Resident Evil 5'' will take place in a desert near Africa, or Iraq because the game is inspired by Black Hawk Down (although this is not confirmed, however, it has been speculated that Wesker's aim was to combine the T- Virus and G- Virus and all the others with the Las Plagas samples, making a very potent virus) It should also be noted that the character Luis in ''Resident Evil 4'' reported having seen a sample of the T-Virus in Madrid while working as a policeman there, which would support speculation that the Madrid police were following T-virus related activity in that city. The city seen in the ''Resident Evil 5'' teaser trailer does not however appear to resemble Madrid in any way. Other theories for the location include a Middle Eastern and South American locale.
