Created following the arrival of French troops and subsequent outbreak of rebellion in Mayo in 1798. Declared in Castlebar by the rebel Irish and their French allies under General Humbert . Ultimatly defeated by Cornwallis , it was merged back into the Kingdom Of Ireland , which became the United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Ireland , then forming part of the Irish Free State , Eire , and today is the Republic Of Ireland . LEADERSHIP John Moore, President Of The Republic Of Connaught GOVERNMENT There was little effective government, given the state's brief and troubled existence. Whether it was even recognised by France is unknown. REGION Its borders changed rapidy before eventual defeat. Most of todays Connacht was under its realm at its height. |
