Information About

Remote Communcation Outlet

An RCO is placed in a remote location (often at an uncontrolled Airport ) to provide radiocommuncation in the area and relay these communcations via a landline to a radio operator at a centralized location such as a Flight Information Centre .

A special variation of the RCO is the Dial-up Remote Communcation Outlet (DRCO) which provides the same services but connects on the ground via a phone line. These units are not connected all the time, but must be activated by a pilot or the radio operator. Once activated, they act like any other RCO and can only be disconnected by the radio operator.
