A reference plane, in Astronomy , is an arbitrary Plane chosen to measure Orbital Elements , which are Parameter s needed to specify that Orbit uniquely. EXAMPLE OF REFERENCE PLANE USE The reference plane used for Planet s is usually the Ecliptic (the plane on which the Earth Orbits ) or the Invariable Plane , the plane passing through the Barycenter of the Solar System .
