Information AboutRadio Art |
|
Generally speaking, radio art is an experimental art pratice that shares ideas and means with the traditions of radio drama and German Hörspiel. Broadly and culturally speaking, its marginal status exists in the United States because televisual experience seems to have pushed aural and radiophonic experience aside. As wireless communication changes technically, economically, and culturally—particularily because of the Internet and podcasting—the artistic ideas and practices in and around radio, sound, and art are changing. Hence, the term "radio art" perhaps best defined by Jacki Apple in her 1990 article {Link without Title} for ''High Performance'' magazine, is better defined by the term "transmission art." Books, essays, and radio art by Douglas Kahn, Gregory Whitehead, Neil Strauss, and Allen S. Weiss have elevated the historical and critical awareness of this field. EXTERNAL LINKS
