Putney Public School is a state Primary School in the suburb of Putney , near Ryde , in Sydney , Australia . The school is run by the New South Wales Department Of Education And Training . Residents of Tennyson and Putney first petitioned the state government for a primary school in 1915 . The government selected and purchased a site halfway between Gladesville Public School and Ryde Public School . The Putney Progress Association pressed its case for a new school once more in 1919 . Plans for the school's single-storey main building were drawn up the following year. The school was opened on 31 October 1921 , under the direction of principal Harold J Moore. At the time, the school's enrolment stood at 126. Today, the school's student population numbers over 400. The main building still stands, housing the school's kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 classes. Unlike other state primary schools in the area, Putney lacks an on-site after-school care facility, ostensibly for want of space. Students requiring supervision outside of school hours are bussed to the nearby Gladesville Public School . |
