Province Of Fermo is being created from part of the province of Ascoli Piceno. The new province (capital
Fermo ) will contain 860 sq km, comprised of 40 ''comuni'', with a population of 166,218 as of the 2001 census, the loss of which will leave the remaining Province of Ascoli Piceno with 33 ''comuni'' and an adjusted population of 203,153.
