Province House

Province House in Halifax , Nova Scotia houses the Nova Scotia House Of Assembly . Opened in 1819, this is currently the oldest seat of government in Canada . In 1852 , the building played host to the first Responsible Government in the British Empire outside the United Kingdom .

Province House in Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island houses the Legislative Assembly Of Prince Edward Island . Opened in 1847 , this is the second-oldest seat of government in Canada . In 1864 , the building played a central role during the Charlottetown Conference where meetings in what is now the led to Canadian Confederation . As a result, the building is also a National Historic Site of Canada and is operated by Parks Canada , while remaining an active legislature.

The Province House was also the home of the colonial governors of the Province Of Massachusetts Bay . It was built in 1679, bought by the Province in 1715, and burned in 1864.
