, this is the second-oldest seat of government in
Canada
. In
1864
, the building played a central role during the
Charlottetown Conference
where meetings in what is now the led to
Canadian Confederation
. As a result, the building is also a National Historic Site of Canada and is operated by
Parks Canada
, while remaining an active legislature.
The
Province House
was also the home of the colonial governors of the
Province Of Massachusetts Bay
. It was built in 1679, bought by the Province in 1715, and burned in 1864.
