In 1921, the Prince succeeded as the head of the Augustenburg branch of the House of Schleswig-Holstein, following his childless cousin Duke Ernst Gunther of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg. Accordingly, the Prince moved to Germany. Despite never marrying, Prince Albert fathered a daughter, Valerie Marie Zu Schleswig-Holstein . Born April 3 1900 in Liptovsky-Svaty Mikulas and placed with a Jewish family called Schwalb, Valerie Marie was recognized by Albert as his daughter ten days before his death. After his death, Valerie Marie's aunts Helena Victoria and Marie Louise signed a statement attesting to her paternal lineage so that she could marry Prince Engelbert-Charles, 10th Duke of Arenberg . Valerie Marie committed suicide on April 14 1953 . Her mother's identity was never revealed. |
