Some areas in the Commonwealth merge the viceroyal office ( Governor-General , Governor , or Lieutenant-Governor ) with this one, e.g. the Governor-General Of Australia and the Governor Of The Cayman Islands . However, as the above cases indicate, the offices do not need to be merged.

Furthermore, despite the fact that Hong Kong is no longer under British rule, it uses largely the same system of government implemented during British rule. The President of the Executive Council Of Hong Kong was the Governor , and now the Chief Executive .
