The equipment in Prescott is apparently capable of being remotely operated: {Link without Title}

...operated remotely so that the astronomers can run the telescopes and cameras from comfortable, climate controlled quarters, or remain outside to view the night sky.

Prescott Arizona, located about 95 driving miles from Flagstaff, is one of the places Percival Lowell considered when seeking the ideal site in Arizona to establish a new observatory. The observatory in Flagstaff was founded in 1894. Lowell did many Mars observations and drew maps of what he saw.
