HISTORY Nippon Broadcasting System, Inc. opened on October 1 , 1966 , a new record label division in order to produce and market music from Japanese artists. While in its first four years the division was simply referred as "Nippon Broadcasting System", it finally changed its name to '''Pony, Inc.''' in 1970 . In 1980 , Pony ventured in interactive contents by producing game software for personal computers. In October 21 , 1987 , '''Canyon''', another Japanese record company founded in 1970 , merged with Pony to form '''Pony Canyon, Inc'''. Pony Canyon is a major leader in the music industry in Japan, with its artists regularly at the top of the Japanese charts. Pony Canyon is also responsable for tape concerts from its artists as well as many animated Manga productions. As a video game producer, Pony Canyon brought the '' in July 2003 .
