The Town of Pompey was formed in 1789. GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 172.2 Km&2 (66.5 Mi&2 ). 172.0 km&2 (66.4 mi&2) of it is land and 0.2 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water. HISTORY See Central New York Military Tract . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 6,159 people, 2,154 households, and 1,761 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 35.8/km&2 (92.7/mi&2). There were 2,272 housing units at an average density of 13.2/km&2 (34.2/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.56% White , 0.37% African American , 0.21% Native American , 0.96% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.28% from Other Races , and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.70% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 2,154 households out of which 41.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.4% were Married Couples living together, 5.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.2% were non-families. 14.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.17. In the town the population was spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males. The median income for a household in the town was $59,190, and the median income for a family was $64,442. Males had a median income of $42,212 versus $32,357 for females. The Per Capita Income for the town was $27,970. 3.9% of the population and 2.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 5.4% of those under the age of 18 and 2.2% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. |
