The standards are similarity, difference, motion, rest, number, sequence and consequence, or in Greek, chaos, mythos, eros, holos, logos, chronos and cosmos. In other dialectics the resolution of opposites would be thesis, antithesis, synthesis. In the Platonic Dialectic the process continues through hypothesis, parenthesis, esthesis and metathesis. These are sometimes refered to in neo-platonism as grammar, dialectic, rhetoric, geometry, arithmetic, astronomy, and harmonics. |
