Planning Institute Australia




The Institute runs a number of events at both the National and Divisional levels, including a biennial National Congress, an Annual State Conference in most States/Territories, special purpose seminars, and a number of social occasions. The Institute also presents National Awards for Planning Excellence to recognise and publicise outstanding achievements in planning and design, and has a code of ethics to which all members are required to adhere.


THE INSTITUTE'S OBJECTIVES

  • The PIA and its members in their professional activities shall act to demonstrate they serve the public interest of urban and rural communities.

  • The PIA shall act to promote the professional interests of its members.

  • The PIA shall establish and administer standards of competency to increase community confidence in it and in the professionalism of its members.

  • The PIA shall act to increase the general and technical knowledge of its members through education, training and research.

  • The PIA shall act to develop and disseminate knowledge relating to its shared core interest.

  • The PIA shall provide a forum for and promote the wide exchange of views in the community relating to its shared core interest.

  • The PIA shall advance its shared core interest through all spheres of government, the private sector and academia by research, dissemination of information, appropriate representation and the informing of public opinion.
