Information About

Planning Aid

Planning Aid began in the early 1970s when the London Planning Aid Service (LPAS) was launched. Although LPAS has remained independent, other planning aid services are run on behalf of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), the professional body for town and country planning.

Since 2004, the Planning Aid service in England has been supported and expanded with assistance from central government. This has had the effect of extending the Planning Aid service to many more areas of the country, and is in part a recognition that many communities find it hard to engage with the planning system, and that community involvement at the right time can help to deliver more successful policies and projects.
