Plainfield South High School

Plainfield South High School opened its doors in August of 2001. The school was the second high school in Plainfield School District 202 and its location SOUTH of the original Plainfield High School gave it it's name.

Plainfield South had an initial enrollment of only Freshman and Sophomores. An additional freshman class was added each of the next two years, until PSHS had a full compliment of classes in the school year 2003-04.

The school itself consists of more than 200 classrooms, a competition gymnasium, fieldhouse, auditorium, media center, state of the art technology, cafeteria and commons area. Outdoor facilities include a 4000 seat stadium, baseball and softball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts and an all weather track. The stadium is serviced by a "stadium building" which includes locker rooms, a training room, restroom facilities and concession area.

Their school colors are navy blue and white, with a trim of green to associate themselves with district 202. Their mascot is Cletus the Cougar, which the first graduating class of 2004 named.

Their mission statement is: To empower all learners to contribute and succeed in a changing world.

Ethnically the student body is 81% white, 11% Hispanic, 5% black, and 2% Asian.
