The school's mascot is the wildcats. The school colors are green and white. HISTORY The original building was completely destroyed by one of the worst tornadoes in Illinois history. The Plainfield Tornado struck the town on August 28 , 1990 , one day before classes were scheduled to begin. Three faculty and staff members lost their lives, but had school been in session, casualties would have been more significant as the tornado hit the school directly. Students moved into the new PHS building in the middle of the 1992-3 school year, and at the time was one of the most technically advanced high schools in the state of Illinois, complete with its own observatory. In 1998, the school created the addision of a freshmen center with it's own gym and cafeteria. The new building has three floors and is connected by an enclosed catwalk connecting to the main building. In 2005, the school contructed a new fan-friendly snack building complete with restrooms attracted to the back. It was placed on the South end of the school's football/track stadium. ACTIVITIES School sports teams include wrestling, football, basketball, badminton, tennis, track, rugby, and baseball. The school also has a Marching Band during football season and a Concert and Symphonic Band during the winter season. The marching band will be taking a trip down to Walt Disney World in the spring of 2006. The Symphonic took first place out of 30 schools at the Midwest Music Festival in Lemont, IL which was held during the month of February. Selected art students took part in the Suburban Prairie Art Conference. Overall, the school came back with a 1st place title.
