GEOGRAPHY Plain City is located at 40°6'27" North, 83°16'4" West (40.107541, -83.267861). According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 4.7 Km&2 (1.8 Mi&2 ). None of the area is covered with water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 2,832 people, 1,128 households, and 753 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 604.1/km&2 (1,563.2/mi&2). There were 1,201 housing units at an average density of 256.2/km&2 (662.9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 96.93% White , 0.78% African American , 0.14% Native American , 0.28% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 0.74% from Other Races , and 1.09% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,128 households out of which 36.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were Married Couples living together, 10.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.10. In the village the population was spread out with 28.0% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 93.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.4 males. The median income for a household in the village was $43,313, and the median income for a family was $51,007. Males had a median income of $35,382 versus $23,351 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $20,815. 6.1% of the population and 4.3% of families were below the Poverty Line . 6.2% of those under the age of 18 and 11.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
