Pittsburgh has more bridges than any city in the world {Link without Title} . Some of the more prominent ones are: FORT PITT BRIDGE The Fort Pitt Bridge is a steel Bowstring Arch Bridge that spans the Monongahela River near its confluence with the Allegheny River at the point. It carries Interstate 279 between the Fort Pitt Tunnel and Point State Park . FORT DUQUESNE BRIDGE The Fort Duquesne Bridge is a steel tied arch bridge that spans the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It carries Pennsylvania State Route 65 , Interstate 279 ( North Shore Expressway ) which runs a half moon through Downtown Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle and north and south towards Interstate 79 . LIBERTY BRIDGE The Liberty Bridge , which crosses over the Monongahela River, and intersects Interstate 579 at its southern terminus. SIXTH, SEVENTH, AND NINTH STREET BRIDGES The Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth Street Bridges are the official names of the the three bridges that cross the Allegheny River at 6th, 7th, and 9th street, respectively. They are three parallel bridges called The Three Sisters . Their names are, Roberto Clemente Bridge (6th), the Andy Warhol Bridge (7th), and the Rachel Carson Bridge (9th). The Three Sisters are self-anchored suspension bridges and are significant because they are the only trio of nearly identical bridges—as well as the first self-anchored suspension spans—built in the United States. SMITHFIELD STREET BRIDGE The Smithfield Street Bridge is a lenticular truss bridge crossing the Monongahela River. Its Lenticular design makes it very easy to pick out. SEE ALSO
