Information About

Pisgah Covered Bridge

Pisgah Covered Bridge is a Covered Bridge that spans West Fork Little River in Randolph County, North Carolina . It is one of the last two covered bridges in North Carolina easily accessible to the public. It was built in 1911 by J.J. Welch .

The bride originally had a wooden roof, however it was replaced with tin in the {Link without Title} . It is 51 feet in length and cost $40 to construct. The bridge eventually became obsolete as the number of cars increased and it could not handle the increased traffic. It was eventually replaced in 1950s, but remains a tourist attraction.

Vandalism has been a problem that has plague the bridge for at least the past twenty years. The remote location of the bridge allowed weekend revelers an easy target. This constant activity gave the bridge a bad reputation, especially with the area residents. Recently a protective road barrier and a gate to the site have been put in place and have dramatically reduced the amount of vandalism.

The bridge was washed away by a flood on August 9, 2003 , but was rebuilt in 2004 .

This bridge is a perfect place for a picnic or a walk through the woods. There is a quarter mile trail through the woods on site.
