Penns Creek refers to both a ''village'' located in Synder County , Pennsylvania , and a ''creek'', which flows to the north of the village.
As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 668.
The village was previously known as Centerville, however the nearby creek's name was later adopted to resolve the name conflict with another Centerville in the state.


GEOGRAPHY

The village of Penns Creek is located at (40.860555, -77.058207).
The creek itself is a Tributary to the Susquehanna River ,
the confluence of which occurs at the northern boundary of the borough of Selinsgrove .
The creek forms the boundary between Synder and Union counties.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 3.0 Km&2 (1.1 Mi&2 ). 3.0 km&2 (1.1 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 668 people, 221 households, and 165 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 224.3/km&2 (580.4/mi&2). There were 231 housing units at an average density of 77.6/km&2 (200.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.31% White , 1.20% African American , 0.60% Native American , 0.00% Asian , 0.15% Pacific Islander , 0.45% from Other Races , and 0.30% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 221 households out of which 38.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% were Married Couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.3% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.24.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 17.1% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 89.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $28,500, and the median income for a family was $38,036. Males had a median income of $26,667 versus $18,971 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $11,029. 16.3% of the population and 14.1% of families were below the Poverty Line . 23.5% of those under the age of 18 and 6.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
