Habitat Found throughout accacia woodland from Pretoria northwards. Habits Usually occurs singularly or in pairs in a territory and tends to responds very actively to intruders, competing by call to ward of potential competitors. Status Common, more easily heard calling at night. This species does however respond well to calls and can easily be called up to respond during the day simply by whistling the call. Once found, there is normaly quite and actively aggressive bird party around these birds as they attempt to chase the threat away. Call A repetitive whistling "too-too-too....", ascending on the last few notes before changing to a descending "Teu-teu-teu-teu" repeatd at one second intervals. Interesting Facts This bird has two white marks on the back of the head that resembles two eyes. This is most likely to protect the bird from other predatory birds due to the fact that which ever way the bird looks, it always seems that it is looking in your direction.
