PASANAURI Pasanauri, a small town in the Republic of Georgia, is an old one as well. it is located about 90 kilometers north of Tbilisi, on the Georgian Military Road. Built in the 19th century, it is an ideal vacation place for its beautiful landscape, the river Aragvi, and the Caucasian mountains that border it. The river Aragvi is the most popular place in Pasanauri for the summer vacations. During the winter, however, it is very cold, and snow is always common. Temperatures there often reach below 10 degrees Celsius. THINGS TO SEE Pasanauri is not also famous for its landscape, but also for its mineral water, hiking trips, handcrafts, and food. Pasanauri has the best georgian dumplings (xinkali) and you can find several local dining places there. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES The main employers are the hospital, the kindergarten, the school, the musical school, and several hotels. Before the Chechnyan war, Pasanauri was a prosperous trading place for travelers. Since it is located on the main military road, it connected Georgia with Asia and Russia. When the war began, however, the Chechens closed down the roads and since then not many travelers stop in Pasanauri. Because of this, most if not all of the population there lives in poverty. The only worthwhile employment opportunity is the Gudauri skiing resort 30 kilometers north. NINO CHOKHELI One of the most famous and respected citizens of Pasanauri is Doctor Nino Chokheli, who established the Oshpiteli Hospital for the mountain region of Georgia. She served this community faithfully and with a great deal of dedication for more than 50 years. She is well respected among 3 generations of the people in Pasanauri and the surrounding village areas. The hospital was honored in her name. There was a jubilee in her honor recently. LIFESTYLE American pop culture is commonplace and many people there know at least two languages; the native Georgian and Russian. Some people also speak English. Most of the people are very laid back, friendly, curious, and vey hospitable. It is a safe place for any tourists passing through. Renting houses is the easiest way to enjoy your stay. Most people find that Pasanauri is a haven for relaxing and resting. |
