Information About

Parks Guard

History

Parks Guard Rifle Drill Team (PG), was founded in 1948 as an Air Force Rifle Drill Team representing Parks College of Engineering and Aviation associated with Saint Louis University. For 56 years, Parks Guard has been a Parks College (the first aviation college in the United States) organization, making it one of the oldest organizations on the Parks campus. Parks Guard is a varsity Class "A" Rifle Exhibition Drill Team composed of cadets and civilians from the St. Louis area. PG is recognized continually as one of the finest teams in the country, and annually receives invitations from all over the nation to compete. Several factors have led to this outstanding recognition: the team's unique style of marching (the slow 40-step per minute cadence), difficult rifle tosses, and the high degree of self-discipline each member has as a result of intense introductory training.

Mission Statement

Parks Guard's mission statement as found on the PG website is as follows:

"To assist in the development of individual members through self-discipline and team spirit. To worthily represent AFROTC, Saint Louis University and Parks College of Engineering through participation as an exhibition drill team in intercollegiate competition and at requested performances such as color guards, ceremonies, and drill demonstrations. To provide leadership training for its members, thereby making better civilians and future military officers for the United States of America."

Currently:

In the academic year 2004-2005 Parks Guard trained and inducted 4 new active members (from a starting class of 20), and competed at the Southern California Invitiational Drill meet (SCIDM) to win first place over exhibition competition from universities like the Air Force Academy and Oregon State University.
