Information AboutParkland Public School |
|
Parkland Public School opened in September 1991 to serve a culturally diverse student population in the Southeast area of Markham. Parkland provides a solid academic program within the context of the Ontario Curriculum. The children who attend Parkland are respectful of the staff, their parents and each other. They know that school is an important place for learning. Students successfully involve themselves in the extensive academic and extracurricular program. Many of the families represented in the Parkland community have come to Canada from other countries and they add their unique perspective to our cultural mosaic. The parents of our students value education and trust school staff to make decisions relating to education. A number of these parents form a School Council that has proven itself to be a strong voice for Parkland. Throughout its history Parkland has been known to have strong staff who are welcoming, adaptable and work well together. A core of teachers has remained at the school since its opening and they blend with younger staff to provide a great balance of energy and experience. The implementation of the Ontario Curriculum and the recent initiative to raise expectations have clearly demonstrated that staff at Parkland are dedicated to ongoing improvement and are prepared to work hard on behalf of students. Providing a well-rounded program has always been a priority for staff at Parkland. Athletic events, music activities, clubs, excursions and programs in the library continue to enrich students lives by addressing their varied interests. The Performance Plus program allowed us to offer added academic support through the purchase of levelled reading books, the availability of a Teacher Mentor and the staff required to conduct recess/homework clubs. |
