Information About

Paper Clips Sudan

Paper clips Sudan is an initiative to end the Genocide resulting from the Conflict In Darfour in Sudan .

GOAL OF THE PROJECT

Syosset High School students will start this project on January 4, 2006. The goal of the project is to gather paper clips from all over America to raise awarness about the conflict in Sudan. Each paper clip symbolizes a person that can be saved in Sudan. Inspiration came from the Paper Clips Project conducted at Whitwell, TN Middle School where students collected 6,000,000 paperclips to commemorate victims of the Holocaust . The current project was founded by Scott Greenberg. The host club was S.A.V.E. (Students against violence everywhere).

The following is a driect quote from the project:

'Our ultimate goal is to set these paper clips in a glass case, for everyone to see.

Get your family, your company, and your friends involved. We need everyone’s support. We need America. Stopping the conflict comes down to awareness. If we raise awareness we raise the will to act.

We can collect paper clips. We can save lives. We can stop genocide.'

FOUNDING LETTER

Dear America,

We need paper clips.

We don’t need money, or your signature, just paper clips. With your help we want to spread the word and stop the Sudanese genocide (also known as the Darfur Genocide ).

We wish to signify the people we can save in the Sudanese genocide using the paper clips you send in.

The paper clips will serve as a testament to those we can save from the indiscriminate murder thousands face every day.

When we go to school or to work genocide goes unchecked. Estimates are near 400,000 deaths, a toll rising day by day.

As individuals we can not put a face on each person who dies— a brother, sister, mother, or father— BUT we can take action, working together, as one.

The students at Whitwell High School helped the nation remember the millions murdered during the Holocaust with a paper clip project. They made America remember the Holocaust; we can get America to stop this one.

Our ultimate goal is to set these paper clips in a glass case, for everyone to see.

Get your family, your company, and your friends involved. We need everyone’s support. We need America. Stopping the conflict comes down to awareness. If we raise awareness we raise the will to act.

We can collect paper clips. We can save lives. We can stop genocide.

Thank You,

From Those Who Have Begun to Act
