Oscar Goldman is the name of a fictional character portrayed by Richard Anderson in both '' The Six Million Dollar Man '' and '' The Bionic Woman '' Television Series . Goldman was the government superior of Steve Austin , and apparently part of the group responsible for having Steve implanted with Bionic s. A man with a cool demeanor, he was alternatively a warm fatherly figure and occasionally a calculating Bureaucrat . Based in Washington DC , Goldman worked for an agency called OSI, which bore some resemblance to the Central Intelligence Agency , and the real-life Office Of Scientific Intelligence that operated within it. His position was so important that Goldman arranged standing orders to be killed in the event he was captured to prevent him from being interrogated or converted into a Double Agent if he was released or rescued. Oscar Goldman was a snappy dresser, who had a propensity for loud patterns (which were in style at the time). His briefcase featured in many episodes, as he would often just open it to produce a solution to various problems. For example, always prepared, Goldman would have spare bionic parts on hand in the briefcase. Goldman appeared in almost all of the episodes of both series. He did ''not'' appear in the original tv movie ran on ABC that served as a kind of pilot for ''The Six Million Dollar Man''. In that story, the relationship between Steve Austin and his superior officer is less friendly than the relationship he would later have with Oscar. In the movie, Oliver Spencer of the OSO (portrayed by Darren McGavin ) was a less sympathetic figure. Oscar Goldman first appeared in the second Steve Austin television movie which was entitled ''The Six Million Dollar Man: Wine, Women and War'' and aired on October 23 , 1973 . His last appearance, chronologically, was in the final episode of ''The Bionic Woman'', entitled ''On the Run'' which aired on May 13 , 1978 at the end of the third season. His last appearance on ''The Six Million Dollar Man'' was in the fifth season episode ''The Moving Mountain'' which aired on March 6 , 1978 . Richard Anderson is one of the few actors to portray the same character in two different television series running concurrently, when ''The Bionic Woman'' spun off from ''The Six Million Dollar Man'' in January 1976 . He continued to star in the show, even after ''The Bionic Woman'' was moved to a rival network, NBC . The character of Oscar Goldman also appeared in three highly rated two-hour tv movie sequels to the series: ''The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman'', ''Bionic Showdown'', and ''Bionic Ever After''. |
