Information About

Oregon Election, 2006

Oregon 's 2006 statewide election will fill postions for Governor , Supreme Court Position 6, Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and numerous seats in the state House, Senate, and Circuit Courts.

The gubernatorial race and the legislature races are partisan. In the May 16 primary, a single candidate from each party will be chosen for each office, by simple plurality for the general election in November.

The race for the Supreme Court position is non-partisan. Under Oregon law, this means that if one candidate wins a majority of the vote in the May 16 primary, he or she will win the election. If no clear majority exists, the top two vote winners will run against one another in a runoff in the November general election.

The other two offices (Bureau Commissioner and Superintendent) are non-partisan elections as well.

State Legislature

elections for the Oregon Senate and House of Representatives

In the Bicameral Oregon Legislative Assembly , each of the 30 Senate districts is composed of exactly two House districts. In the chart below, House districts are listed next to the Senate district to which they belong (rather than listing the Senate and House in separate charts.) The counties covered by each Senate district are listed in ''italics,'' with (parentheses) if the county extends into other districts. (The Oregon Blue Book contains much of the information detailed below.)

For more detail on district boundaries, see the Secretary of State's web site:
