The Standard Obverse was the official emblem of the Oregon Centennial. The Standard Reverse had a center with the phrase: Good For 50c in trade At any cooperative Business or Redeemable At face value at the (locality) (location) until 3P.M. Friday Sept. 1959. There existed variations of the standard reverse phrasing between localities. Listed here is the basic concept of the reverse that most localities used. Each locality had the option of which type or types of metal composition to use in production. Some localities created limited versions of different metals. These different versions were used as awards, gifts, or special mementos for dignitaries. Several of the Oregon Centennial Tokens are listed in ) PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES The tokens range in size from 32 to 40 millimeters in diameter. Different metal compositions were used by the manufacture of the tokens. Each locality could choose from one or more metals to make tokens from. VARIATIONS As with many mintings of coinage or tokens, . METAL COMPOSITIONS OF THE OREGON TOKENS Bronze Gilt Composition: An alloy of copper and tin, usually 80% to 95% copper. :Note: The HK book Lists as Gilt-Bronze. Gilt or Gilding is the process of affixing thin metal leaf to a surface to give the effect of solid or inlaid metal. Goldine Composition: Brass with 15% zinc. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, although the term is loosely used to include all copper alloys. Generally, the alloys used vary in composition from 3% zinc to 30% zinc, and vary in color from the red of copper to a bright yellow. Oxidized Brass Composition: Aluminum Composition: Nickel Silver Composition: A copper alloy containing 18-22% nickel, 15-20% zinc and sometimes manganese and other metals which is made with a wide variety of compositions. Antiqued Silver Plate Composition: Matte Silver Plate Composition: Sterling Silver Composition:50% Ag, 40% Cu, 5% Ni and 5% Zn Appearance: Cameo effect. The word "Sterling" appears on the outside of the rim.
