In Telecommunications , Open Access Network ('''OAN''') refers to horizontally layered network architecture and business model that separates physical access to the network from service provisioning. The same OAN will be used by a number of different providers that share the investments and maintenance cost. The term was coined by Roberto Battiti on 2003 in his article Global growth of open access networks: from warchalking and connection sharing to sustainable business. The OAN concept is specially apropriate for deploying metropolitan WiFi Access Networks.
