''Ocean Girl'', also known as '''''Ocean Odyssey''''' in the UK, is an Australian Science-fiction Television Series . It revolves around the character of Neri, an Alien girl from the Planet of the Oceans. HISTORY The original ''Ocean Girl'' series ran on Australia's Network Ten between 1994 and 1998 . It was broadcast by the Disney Channel in the United States , Discovery Kids in the United Kingdom , YTV in Canada , ZDF and KI.KA in Germany and on RTÉ Two in Ireland . The Disney Channel only aired the first three seasons, the last was not broadcast. Discovery Kids regularly broadcast all four seasons in continuous loops, up until 2003 . It was also broadcast as ''Ocean Odyssey'' on BBC Two in the UK. Only half of the fourth season was broadcast in 2002 , before it was then shown in full in the autumn of 2004 . The show has recently been repeated on the ABC in Australia, as part of their ABC Kids afternoon block of childrens programs. The first season was released on DVD in Australia on November 7 2005 . An Animated series, ''The New Adventures Of Ocean Girl'' ran from 2000 to 2001 , and has since been released on DVD. Story and characters are entirely unrelated to the live action series. It has never been aired in the UK. RTÉ Two aired it in 2003. PLOT ''Ocean Girl'' is the story of a girl named Neri who lives alone on an island. As explained by the show, she had travelled to the planet Earth on a spaceship with her father when she was young. Her father died of an unspecified sickness soon after. Neri then held his responsibility of protecting the Earth's oceans. A Humpback Whale (who she names Jali and later Charley) had saved Neri after she fell off a cliff, and they became friends soon after. All of the other main characters live and work on a research and environmental protection organization named ORCA, located off the coast of Australia . This organisation is one of the major focuses of the story. Nearly every episode involves the underwater research facility. The main characters on the station are:
