CONTINUATIONS TO THE NORTH

Route 87 and County Route 638 continues from Atlantic City north to Brigantine , but there is no other access to the mainland from Brigantine. State Route S4A ( Great Bay Boulevard ) was proposed to head north from Brigantine to Tuckerton . Further north, County Route 607 runs along the length of Long Beach Island , but is only connected to the mainland by one bridge - Route 72 - in the middle of the island. Route 35 begins at Island Beach State Park , connected to the mainland by the Thomas A. Mathis Bridge ( Route 37 ) in Seaside Heights , and then heads north to Point Pleasant Beach , where the barrier island merges with the mainland.
