Information About

Nuneaton R.f.c.

Nuneaton RFC is a Rugby Club, playing under the rules of Rugby Football Union, as administered by the International Rugby Board (IRB). They were founded in 1879 and play at Liberty Way in Nuneaton. They currently (2005/06 season) play in National Division 3 North, and are actively seeking promotion from this division.

RECENT HISTORY

In 2000, the club appointed Chris Tarbuck, formerly of Saracens, Leicester, Coventry and Nuneaton as a player, including appearances for England 'A', as Director of Rugby. From just a handful of players at his first session, Chris Tarbuck gradually built a squad, and achieved stability in the division. In the 2002/03 season, Nuneaton made a push for promotion, and won National 3 North. A 3rd place finish in their first season in National 2 wasn't quite enough to win promotion to National 1. However, the next season, 2004/05, a VERY slow start to the season meant that Nuneaton finished 3rd from bottom, just one point away from safety. Spending 2005/06 in National 3 North means that Nuneaton will definitely be pushing for promotion. Indeed the ambition has been reported as two promotions in three seasons. Signings such as Darren Garforth (25 England caps, ex-Leicester) in 2003, and Tim Stimpson (19 England caps, British Lions, ex-Newcastle, Leicester, Perpignan, Leeds) in 2006 seem to match these ambitions.

LIBERTY WAY GROUND

The Liberty Way Ground, in Nuneaton, contains 3 full-size pitches. The first team pitch and training pitch are both fully floodlit. The lights on the first team pitch are of playing standard. There are 4 large changing rooms, with showers, a referee's room and a physiotherapist room. There is also a large function room with a large bar and fully-equipped function room.

LIBERTY WAY RENNOVATION

There are currently plans to rennovate the Liberty Way ground. This is a joint venture with Nuneaton Borough FC, and will involve stands on three sides of the first team pitch, as well as a large extension to the clubhouse, creating more changing and office space, as well as nicer facilities. Work is expected to start reasonably soon, and the whole project is in line with Nuneaton's ambitions of being both a National 1 Club and the Premier Club in Warwickshire.
